Hotel Fenix
This 4 star hotel is located in the centre of Lisbon, at the Praça
Marquês de Pombal. Many of the places of interest can
be visited on foot from this hotel. Easy access to public transport and
inexpensive taxis allow you to go further afield.

Lisbon
Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and has endless things to see and do in the
daytime. Parts of the city really come to life at night. We
recommend you explore as much as possible on foot, using the map you receive
when you arrive in Lisbon. All major places of interest are marked on the
map, just some of them are described below.
You
can purchase a Lisboa Card – 48 Hours for 18.50 Euro. These are
available at Carris Ticket Booths and allows reduced entrance fees for many
places of interest, and also free access to public transport on buses, trams
and lifts. A free guidebook is also available.
What to do in Lisbon
Baixa and Alfama
From the hotel walk south through the commercial area of a European capital city
or take a taxi to arrive in old Lisbon, which you should certainly explore on
foot. The Baixa district is still a trading centre. To the east
lies the Alfama, where you can loose yourself in the maze of winding streets in
one of the oldest residential districts of the city. It is well worth the
effort to find your way up to one of the viewpoints and look down on the Alfama
district. The Bairro Alto district, west of the Baixa, is a place to
visit at night to enjoy Portuguese food in one of its many restaurants.
Fado

Fado - fate; song full of sentiment, usually loved or hated, but all should take
the opportunity to experience this unique part of Lisbon's culture while in the
city.
Restaurant Clube de Fado, Rua São João da Praça 92/4, Baixa - This
is just one of many places where Fado can be heard. The restaurant has
excellent Portuguese traditional cooking, the sound of guitar and great Fado
voices for a memorable evening.
Casa do Fado e da Guitarra Portuguesa, Largo do Chafariz de Dentro 1,
Alfama - A fascinating display documenting the history and roots of Lisbon's
own music, and its lovely instrument, the Portuguese guitar.
Historic Buildings
There are too many buildings of historic and architectural interest to visit in
just 3 days. If you explore the city on foot, you cannot help but find
some of these. However you may wish to travel further visiting Belém,
reminding you of Portugal's Golden Age of Discovery. It is from here that
famous navigators set sail to discover the world.
Torre
de Belém - The Tower of Belém was built in an effort to defend the
estuary of the river Tagus.
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos - The first work on the construction of the Mosteiro
dos Jerónimos started in 1501. The idea came from D. Manuel I who, five
years earlier, had asked the Santa Sé to authorize the building of a great
monastery at the entrance to Lisbon. A century later, the work was finished.
Museums
As you would expect, there are many museums in Lisbon. If you visit Belém,
you could include the National Coach Museum in your itinerary.
Museu Nacional dos Coches - The National Coach Museum,
now at the Parque das Nações, has a unique collection. Nowhere else will
you be able to see such a vast set of state and riding vehicles from the 17th,
18th and 19th centuries.
Free entry on Sundays up to 14:00. Closed on Mondays.
Museu do Azulejo - A museum with a particular Portuguese dimension is the
National Tile Museum, but to get here you will travel to the east of the other
areas we have mentioned.
Free entry on Sundays up to 14:00. Closed on Mondays.
