Hotel Pestana Atlantic Gardens

This 4 star hotel is situated in a residential area, 5 minutes drive from the centre of Cascais, and is only 50 metres from the sea. This package includes twin sea view rooms and the hotel has outdoor and indoor heated pool.

Cascais

Cascais is 15 kilometres west of Lisbon, was originally a fishing port and is now a lively seaside resort.  There are an abundance of restaurants, shops and bars, and many nearby places to visit, only some are suggested below.  Lisbon centre is probably best visited from Cascais using the local train service.

The Most Westerly Point in Europe

Along the coast there are many spots where you can simply relax and even in good weather you will often discover the power of the Atlantic Ocean.  Cabo da Roca is the most westerly point of Europe.  It is part of the Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais.  From this point you can overlook the Guincho beach or the Sintra hills.  From here you can drive inland through the wilderness of the nature reserve to Sintra.

Sintra

A small town, with a wealth of history.  There are two palaces both well worth visiting, the Palacio Nacional, a former royal palace in the centre of the town, and above the town the Palacio da Pena.  But leave time to just wander around and experience the magic of Sintra.  Its natural beauty, diverse architecture and splendid views have been appreciated by Portugal's nobility, writers and poets, and now its casual visitors.  Select a restaurant and return in the quiet of the early evening.

Wine of Colares

Colares is one of Portugal's very special wines, a fragrant, dark red that ages superbly well. The finest Colares wines are made from vines planted among sand dunes.  Wines can be bought from the Adega Cooperative da Colares and tasting is also offered.

Tapada Nacional de Mafra

Created by kings for kings, these hunting grounds which ajoin the Palácio-Convento de Mafra extend over a vast area.  A place to see some of Portugal's natural fauna and flora.

Estoril Casino

Estoril Casino is the largest in Europe and has gaming room, slot machine hall, restaurants, bars and disco.  The main restaurant has a nightly show with international cabaret artists, and there is also a luxurious Chinese restaurant.  The casino is open every day from 15:00 to 03:00.

Surfing

Surf lovers will find the right conditions at the Guincho beach, where international surfing competitions are regularly held.  You can hire surf equipment locally at the Guincho Surf School.
